Happy Sunday!! Just me? Could anyone else use an extra day each weekend? This weekend was Homecoming for West Park, so the Brooks household was quite busy. In addition to the craziness, we had all of our usual sports and a softball tournament. A softball tournament that would not end, might I add!! In these situations, I try so hard to be present and enjoy the moment, but sometimes there is so much to do. As busy as we were, all of the things this weekend were positive and wonderful and that is something to be thankful for. And Monday will still come tomorrow... Let's do this! 
Oh, in case you were wondering, my car still does not have new tires. 😂

Picture Day Tomorrow: Staff can get your picture taken from 7-7:30am. See the schedule Luisa sent for the rest of the day. We will do our group staff picture on the morning of Monday, 10/23. Yes, that means you will have to do your hair two Mondays in a row. 😊
Evacuation Drill: We will have our first evacuation drill this Thursday at 8:45am. Each drill is a chance to practice and learn. Also, our fire alarm talks to us, so that will be fun to experience! I know that wifi and Raptor have been less than cooperative, but I wanted to remind you to account for yourself. You have to go into your profile and account for yourself and your location during each drill. 

Staff Intros: Our staff intros are rolling on the TV in the front office. It makes me so happy and visitors love it. If you have not shared a slide with me, please do. And that means ALL of you!! I want a slide for every Westbrook Staff member. Just create a slide with some pictures of you; you and your family; you and your dog; or whatever you want. Give a short bio and something about what you love about your job. I also need to create my slide! 


Assembly Change: The ROCKstar assembly for Cooperative was supposed to be on 10/27, but it will now be on Friday, November 3rd. I am crazy but not crazy enough to have an assembly on the same day as the Halloween Parade. 

Scheduled Assemblies: We have a couple of assemblies scheduled in November that I wanted you to get on your calendars. 

November 9 @ 10:30am (Kinder switch lunch and recess?): The Woodcreek Theater Group will be performing. 

November 14th, 2 assemblies @ 8-8:20am and 8:30-8:50am. The WestPark Dance Team will be coming to perform. I will share how we are going to split the assemblies soon. 

EL Information

The EL message is going to all schools and was provided by Jennie Ruvalcalba to look for an email from ELLevation. 

California requires that we continue to monitor the academic and language growth of any students who have been reclassified from English Learner (EL) to Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) within the last 4 years. In addition, CA also requires the progress monitoring of current EL students. This monitoring allows us to celebrate student successes and to determine if additional support may be needed for both groups of students to continue making progress.  


Our first round of EL and RFEP Progress Monitoring Forms will be assigned on 10/16/23 and will be due by 11/3/23. Teachers who have current EL students and/or students that have been reclassified within the last 4 years will receive automated emails from Ellevation when these Progress Monitoring forms are assigned.

We will be completing these forms at our 10/19 Staff meeting. Please bring your computer.

  Happy Sunday! This week we have our first assembly recognizing our Resilient students. I cannot how happy it makes me to hear students talking about what it means to be resilient. This is such an important trait I hope to grow in our students at Westbrook. All of you are the perfect examples to lead the way as you have demonstrated such resilience in the opening of Westbrook. Another thank you to all of you! The Assembly will start around 10:10am. Some grade levels will be coming straight from recess. Let me know if you have questions about the process of the assembly. I know it will be new for most of you. This is what I put in the family blog but I want to share it with you, as well!  Happy Sunday and Congrats to all of my Niners Fans out there! I am bummed we did not pull of the upset but it was a great game. The Packers made some big mistakes at the wrong time, but that goes to show you, we all make mistakes even if we are paid an astronomical amount of money😂 I have to say, I loved so much of the game. I loved (and hated) how close it was. I loved the history of Shanahan and LaFleur. I also enjoyed hearing how the coaches trusted their young quarterbacks.   Welcome to December, Westbrook! I just have to say, you all rock! Thursday's paint night was so much fun. There was so much laughing and well, joy. We were the first staff to do a paint night at MoJoe's and it was the largest paint night group they ever hosted. Leave it up to us to be the first! Many of you commented on how much fun it was and some even asked why more staffs do not do it? Well, to be completely honest, I want all of you to think about the staffs you came from and ask yourself if there would have been so many people at an event like this? In my experience not many would have shown up or it would have been the same few who always come. Is it the same for you? This is one of the million reasons we are so fortunate at Westbrook.
