(In full transparency, the following is what I wrote in the family blog. I need to be efficient so I can watch the game!!) Happy Wildcard Weekend!! If there was ever a moment when you doubted whether or not the Brooks were true Packer fans, we cleared up any doubt today. We also provided many smiles for our fellow shoppers. I told my son I want him to wear this more often because everyone got such a kick out of it. The game is on right now, so there is a lot of excitement (and yelling) in our household. Eeek. Also, I am having a very hard time focusing on the blog!!

It was a great week back. I cannot tell you how happy I was when some of you shared things you were doing in your classrooms and growth by your students. I love that you did not miss a beat when the students returned from break. I also appreciate how you braved the cold to do the Recess Rodeos and worked together to find solutions and share ideas. Man, how lucky and I to be surrounded by the dream team!

Unified Sports: Super exciting update!! We are getting our Unified Sports program up and running. Some of our 4th and 5th graders will be supporting our FSP classes during PE. The exciting news is that our Unified Sports program will be attending the high school event at West Park!! They will be participating in a kick ball game with some of the high school students. This will take place on February 16th and we are the first elementary school to attend this event!

Also, or Ed Services team has been working really hard to create some inclusive recess equipment. We will be training our Unified Sports helpers on this equipment and they will help support students during recesses. I cannot wait to see it in action. This has been a project they have put a lot of time and heart into.

TOSA Tidbits:

EL Update: ELPAC Practice Tests and Info Links
This is hefty. Thank you for taking the time to read it.
We need to get an idea of dates we should avoid having examiners come to Westbrook to assess. If your grade level has any field trips or special events planned...please complete this doc with those dates. Jennie puts together a ginormous jigsaw puzzle to plan testing dates and this information really helps her initial planning. Thank you for completing this as soon as possible.
We should be getting our Summative testing dates soon. Please keep an eye out for those in the coming weeks.
It's a great time to start preparing your EL students for the test and below you will find a few links to help. The time spent practicing is designated EL minutes since these practice questions are standards based.
1.These practice questions come directly from the California Department of Education.  They will mirror the format of the test as these are "retired" questions from previous tests. Please share this with parents.
  • The website is still available to:
    • Practice test-taking strategies with students

    • Become familiar with the types of questions

    • Help increase familiarity with the testing platform: this link mirrors the format of the test.

    • Directions to Launch Practice ELPAC Assessment

    • I think in the past teachers have added the link

2. This is a nice quick reference link to a sample question for each domain. This would be a good resource to share with the parents of your EL students. However, it does not give a lot of practice questions. The above resource is better for more practice.
3. This is a great resource for you to use for designated EL time and will mirror each domain of the test.
FINALLY-Jenn and I are working on our schedule to make room for the Summative Lunch Bunch. Thank you, Courtney, for the amazing inspiration! I will have something in the blog for next week.

Board Game Club-begins Thursday, January 18th
Please see the updated document to start getting your kids excited for this! We currently have 3 volunteers. After this week I will reach out if we can add more students.
We have some games to get started with while we wait for our order to go through. If you happen to have "Spot It" that we can borrow, that would be great!
