Good Afternoon Westbrook Staff!! I wasn't going to do a blog today but a few things have happened recently and I started writing a blog in my head, so here we are! ๐ I was lucky enough to spend time with my sister over break and she happens to be a high school math teacher. I also spent some time with a friend who is a middle school principal. Of course, we talked about work things! The thing that came up was how hard it is to help kids who are behind in middle and high school. Our school system simply does not allow for the intervention they need.
I am sure all of you know, but I have worked at every level: Elementary, middle and high school. Actually, the least of my experience was in elementary. At one point in my career, I was offered an opportunity to choose between middle school and elementary administration. I chose elementary because A) I had the most to learn, but also B) Elementary is where we truly change a child's academic trajectory.
Westbrook, we are so fortunate. The image above says it all. We are surrounded by Inspiration, Excitement and Gratitude! Together, we can do so much for the students in our seats. I feel inclined to say this, yet again, because at our district PD, I saw some of the people I used to work with. You know, the ones that don't want to put in the work, the ones that can always find the negative, the ones that are not in it for the kids. I am so grateful, each and everyday, to be surrounded by all of you!
As we enter the second half of the year with our feet finally under ourselves, I hope you also feel inspired to help these amazing children. I can't wait to watch our students grow and shine. Thank you for your willingness to do the work and the positive energy you bring. It was so fun to watch you work on Monday and Tuesday to explore new ways to help kids. You all inspire me! Thank you!
As I was looking at the last blog, man, we had a lot going on!! I do want to add some fun and excitement in the months ahead. If you have ideas, please share them with me. I can't always be the elf, but if you see fun things or have ideas, send them my way!
