Here it comes, more sappiness from Brooks. I cannot help it! This week, I was talking to one of our own and she said, 'At Westbrook, everyone meets in the middle. We all put work into supporting our students. It is not on the shoulders of any one individual. You don't see that at many schools.' I have not stopped thinking about this since. It is absolutely true! I know that you know, but we are an anomaly. Right now, you do not meet many teachers or administrators who are genuinely happy and feel positive about the work they do. I think we would all agree that we are genuinely happy about our work. That is not to say our work is easy, or that there are not really tough days, but I think that we all feel surrounded by support and positivity. Man, we are so lucky! Thank you again for being a part of it and for all that you do each day!
Speaking of appreciation and being grateful, it is November, the month of thanks. I challenge you to make a point to let others know how grateful you are for them this month. It will bring positivity to both the person you appreciate and to yourself. It feels good to spread appreciation. Our Westbrook notecards are on my desk. Feel free to grab a few extra this month and spread the love!
We have some exciting news! Westbrook has become a partner school with the Special Olympics as a Unified Champion School!
Through this partnership, we will be having some of our students push out into general education PE, and we will have some of our general education students push into our special education PE classes.
What do we need from you?
We need you to help us select some students who can push into our special education PE classes. Any student is welcome, as long as they have the desire to be a helper, are kind, and enjoy working with others.
We also need your support! Soon, we will be hosting a school-wide kickball tournament (likely in the Spring) for our students.
We are SO excited for Westbrook to partner with the Special Olympics, and to see our students further connect with one another.
Feel free to check in with Crystal or Jessica if you have more questions :)
Here are the slides from our staff meeting with our first data point. It is pretty fun to be part of the very first Westbrook Data Point. I cannot wait to see where we go: Data Slides
