OK. Wow! I was looking for an image to represent being flexible and this popped up. First, the why I was looking for it. I was thinking about how amazing it was that we recognized a problem: behavior at our assemblies; we brainstormed a solution at our staff meeting on Wednesday; and put it into action on Friday. AND...it was beautiful. I appreciate that we were all willing to problem solve and then, act!
Then, why is this quote so cool?? Because I think it represents us. Isn't that why we are at Westbrook? We wanted change, we adapted to everything thrown our way and we are thriving!! We are the strongest species😉 But, then again, I am biased.
App Added: Everyone now has access to Starfall. It offers a lot of great things for students in every grade. Please have your students try it out. Here is the login information:
Starfall: Go to starfall.com
Group ID: werock@rcsdk8.org
Password: rockstar
The other supplemental curriculum is finally making its way to Westbrook. Yay!!
Facilities Reminders: Please no magnets or object in door to keep it open. It ruins the paint and will ruin the hinge. I know it is a pain to keep opening the door for students but the district is doing away with lock blocks.I am working on getting the whiteboard paint spots fixed and printer issues remedied. As soon as one thing gets done, another thing pops up. Life is not boring! Ha! Please do not hesitate to report issues to me. We have one year to get everything fixed by the builder.
Essential Standard Pacing Guides: There is a Grade Level Essential Standard folder in our shared drive. Please add your grade level essential standard pacing guides to this folder. Even if they are not complete, add them to the folder. You can continue to work on them after they have been shared. Thank you!
PBIS
SWIS Referrals: Just a reminder to make sure you are entering in all your referrals by Tuesday this week! We will be running our first SWIS report and looking at referrals at our PBIS meeting Thursday! Remember to edit the time the incident occurred and add a description in the 'note' section on the side. It's ok to enter "older" referrals! Some of us have piles...LOL
As always, if you ever have any questions or need any support/help, please do not hesitate to reach out. Here is the video for entering a referral into SWIS. Remember, referrals are just for data collection. We need to see trends happening around campus so we can make changes where they are needed! If there is no data, there are no areas to improve on :)
Organized Assembly: Just a quick reminder to send home parent invitations and prep the awards for Friday's assembly. The awards are in your boxes. We are super excited to have the assembly using the new layout! Kim is working hard to get the video ready. We should have a lesson to you before the assembly so you can teach it to your class.
One more slight change- I am going to come to you with the microphone to announce your organized students. You can tap them on the shoulder and have them step in front of where you are sitting. Then, go take your pictures.
TOSA Tidbits
The Hub: Find SO many frequently used links here! It is a working document so we can add to it. If the cell is "greyed out", I don't have the link created yet. This will live in the Westbrook Shared Drive.
Buddy Class: Please add your buddy class and schedule to this document so Luisa and Debbie know where to look for kids when needed. If you don't have a set meeting time just leave it blank. This link can also be found in The Hub.
Second Step: As we are starting to enter into October, some classes are ready to begin Unit 2 which focuses on the timely theme of "Emotion Management". If you are not there yet, no worries. We have all begun teaching Second Step lessons and building those Tier 1 SEL skills. We know there were some technical glitches, some teaching digital citizenship lessons first and, welp, the start of our new school!
Check this out! Meeting with the first grade team, I was inspired by Kim's organization of the Second Step lessons and printable materials...a binder ready to teach and prep materials from. If you are interested in having one of your own, let me know on this document.
Second Step Binder Request Jenn and I will work on prepping them. Thanks for the inspiration, Kim!
