And welcome to Westbrook!! Isn't this the best quote ever? I may be the only person on earth that has not seen it before, but man, am I glad I finally did! I believe this should be on a wall in our office because it fits our team so well.

Again, thank you for all the work you are putting in, your positive attitudes and enthusiasm! It feels good to work at Westbrook and I am inspired by each of you everyday! And thank you to so many of you who came to happy hour on Friday. Is there anything better than relaxing and enjoying time with other cool adults?? Nope! If you couldn't make it, we missed you, but there will be other opportunities😉

Open House Date: Please let me know when your PLC prefers to have Open House. I will put the suggested dates on a form and we will vote as a staff. Some PLC's have already emailed me and I have your dates.
Attendance: If you watched the ROCKstar report, I shared a message about attendance. The district partnered with a new program that sends out attendance letters and sets up meetings according to attendance in PowerSchool. This is huge!! It makes staying on top of attendance so much easier!! I am sharing because I will be pressuring families in regard to attendance. We need these kids at school!!

Title: Important Notice: Chromebook Care and Device Damage

Below is a message from the district. I don't think we have had too many issues, but I am sharing this message as a reminder. We are very lucky to have new Chromebooks, so they will last a long time if we are very careful which I know you are!

We are reaching out today to address a concerning issue in our District since the beginning of the school year. Unfortunately, we have experienced significant damage to our student Chromebooks, with over 150 units requiring repairs or replacements.

While we understand that accidents can, and do, happen, we all must work together to ensure the longevity and functionality of these devices, as they are crucial tools for learning. To avoid further damage and inconvenience, we request your cooperation in taking better care of these devices.

Below are some important guidelines to share with your student to ensure the proper care of their Chromebook both at school and at home:

  • Handle with Care: Always treat your Chromebook carefully, avoiding drops, impacts, or rough handling.

  • Avoid Liquids: Chromebooks and liquids do not mix well. Please keep beverages and other liquids away from your device.

  • Gentle Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the screen and keyboard. Avoid using abrasive materials or cleaners that could harm the device.

  • Responsible Charging: Only use the provided charger and avoid overcharging your Chromebook. Remember to unplug it when fully charged. (The charging stations are safe and charge on a rotating cycle)

  • Prompt Reporting: If you accidentally damage your Chromebook, please report it immediately to the Library Media Specialist. Do not attempt to repair it yourself.

Our current rate of device damage is unsustainable. As a result, it may take longer to replace a damaged Chromebook as we work diligently to repair existing devices and secure additional loaners. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and kindly request your patience during this time.

Remember that these devices are provided to all students to support and enhance learning, and we are committed to providing all with the tools they need for success. By following these guidelines and taking good care of all Chromebooks, we can minimize disruptions and ensure every student has access to a functional device.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. We appreciate your understanding and dedication to preserving these valuable resources.

TOSA Tidbit
I created a Westbrook document compiling the intervention resources we have or are on their way to our hot little hands. It is still a work in progress. Feel free to add anything you have that I have not included that may be available for other teachers to utilize. I have tried to include only research based resources particularly in ELA. Math is still under construction. I hope you find this helpful!
